1 Nokia 808 PureView launched, hits shelves today

Nokia has finally launched the 808 PureView in India, giving it an MOP of Rs. 33,899. The new 41MP camera phone will supposedly be available on shelves from today itself, starting with Nokia Priority stores.


The Nokia 808 PureView was introduced back atMWC 2012, and was one of the highlights of the event, being the first cameraphone to boast of such a massive sensor (1/1.2-inch with ND filter). 


Its 41MP rating translates to 38MP (4:3, or 34MP 16:9) effective, though by default, the camera clicks extra-sharp and light-sensitive 5MP and 8MP images, condensing seven adjacent pixels from the original 38MP image into one.

The autofocus camera on the Nokia 808 PureView features an f/2.8 Carl Zeiss lens with 4X optical zoom, and a Xenon flash, apart from an LED light for video recording (it is capable of 1080p HD at 30 fps), geo-tagging, and stereo sound recording. The 808 PureView will ship with Nokia Symbian Belle onboard, and unfortunately, this is where the disappointments (at least in terms of specifications – we’ll hold our overall usability judgement until after our review) begin.

Nokia has given the 808 PureView a 4-inch 640x360 pixel capacitive touchscreen with Gorilla Glass and ClearBlack technology, which despite being in a 16:9 aspect, is rather low-resolution compared to the displays on today’s smartphones. The Nokia 808 PureView runs on a single-core 1.3GHz ARM11 processor, coupled with 512MB of RAM.

Other specifications include 16GB of built-in storage, 1GB of ROM, active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, acceleromenter, proximity sensor, digital compass, and a 1,400 mAh battery rated to deliver up to 465 hours of 2G standby time, and 11 hours of 2G talktime.

In terms of connectivity, the Nokia 808 PureView offers USB-on-the-Go, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, HSDPA 14.4Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps, Wi-Fi N with DLNA, GPS and A-GPS, stereo FM radio, HDMI out, and even NFC. Notably, the 808 PureView also boasts of a document viewer, as well as Dolby Digital Plus audio, with Dolby headphone enhancement.

The Nokia 808 PureView will be available in black, red and white colours. The Finnish giant has also partnered with Airtel in India, to offer 808 PureView buyers the option of an Airtel data connection, with 500MB free.
